Whilst the England football team performed with all the drive, enthusiasm and vigour of a bunch of council workers looking for something to do; teachers up and down the land can at least celebrate NASUWT leader Chris Keates' 7% pay rise to £135 000 and head of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, Mary Bousted's 3.4% pay increase to £148 000.

Lucky you, Mr Chalk! Your union leaders are clearly of such a surpassing wonderfulness that they need higher pay to stop them being poached by rival unions.
got a source?
I realized early in my career that the Unions were a complete waste of money; nevertheless, I remained a member till I retired, (for the legal protection, you understand). When I was accused of physical assault by a well-known congenital liar, I was disappointed by the poor support I received from the Union; this was not what I had expected.
If I had my time over again, I should set up an insurance scheme that would guarantee its policy-holders a top barrister should they be falsely accused, and would also promise to exact the maximum compensation from the families of the little liars, and take unsupportive head teachers to the cleaners as well. I reckon £100 a year should more than cover it if I could get enough to subscribe. Stuff your glossy magazines, your sinecures and your time-wasting conferences.
By the way, I taught with “Mr Jones” (in your book), but he taught Chemistry when I knew him. The reason we couldn’t fire him was because of the teacher unions; and he was the bloody union rep!
This was in the Sunday Times. There were a couple of other well known Union bosses on big salaries who had received generous rises.
How can the head of a teachers union be paid twice what the head of a school gets?
