Paul Chambers

Paul Chambers has lost his job, been fined £1000 and now has a criminal record.

For what exactly? Sending a joke message on Twitter; something that I would have done without a second thought at his age if the technology had been available. (In fact if I knew how to use Twitter I'd do it right now)

Nobody for one moment imagines that he was doing anything other than voicing his frustration. It does make you wonder when we will actually start addressing the real threats to our safety, rather than over reacting and making our country look stupid. (Which given the current state of the election, we really don't need any help with)

What readers may not understand is that his conviction represents a crime "Detection" for the local police. This helps to maintain their place in the policing league tables, which readers probably do understand. With the exception of a few officers like me (considered mad and dangerous by the system) most police are now obsessed with targets and will pick any low hanging fruit. Including Paul Chambers. The nation had the opportunity to get rid of this nonsense last week, and it seems we blew it, yet again.

You'd think a trainee accountant, more than anyone else, would understand the phrase "Sense of humour failure."

Cynical

"The court heard that his tweet had no operational effect on the airport, whose security staff had graded the message’s threat level as “non credible”."

A Tweet from a twit with a recent history of abusive and comical tweets loses his job and £1,000 (including £15???). Is there such a crime of 'justice perversion'? because that's what this blatantly is.

And in reply to Inspector Gadget's comment - with the 3 political parties on offer there is not a chance that this oppressive and rabidly Politically Correct persecution will stop. Neither the Tories nor Lib Dems are any better than labour these days. If you truly want this country to flourish get on over the The Liberal Democrats site with an open mind prepared to be enlightened and then tell me our current crop are suitable to govern.

Would he get a criminal record for this?

As Gadget has mentioned many times: The CPS won't prosecute unless they're sure of a win as they have stats to protect and are terrified of losing. Any hint of a loss in court and it doesn't even get to trial, hence the mountain of paperwork that police officers have to deal with.

Truly awful.

typical!!

Yes it was possibly a childish outburst but is it just a childish to prosecute when you look at the rest of his posts?

Does this go in with the:
RV driver who thinks cruise control means you dont need to steer.

The criminal who successfully sued a shop keeper for putting in plastic windows.

And others.........

How stupid. What a waste of resources. Still and all, a detection is a detection, and ticky boxes must be ticked....

No sympathy with him, I'm afraid.

Utter madness to prosecute him. How many Muslims have made inflammatory statements on the internet or in the media and their 'rights' to express their 'anger' always have to be upheld.

Middle class white males can't claim discrimination or harassment so they are just easy pickings for the police.
