Role Models

As teachers will now have to behave themselves outside school, whilst their pupils do whatever they like, I've had to write to the GTCE to check that it's ok for Mrs C to carry on working two nights a week at our local Lap Dancing Club.

If you study the report in The Times carefully, I think you'll find that wouldn't be a problem. What would be a very big problem is having political opinions the General Teaching Council don't approve of. That seems to be the purpose of the idea.

Unlike Government Ministers I suppose

The legislation to suspend teachers already exists...why do we need more? This country gets a very good deal from its teachers in general. Most do a job that the vast majority of the population would not be prepared to touch for a 'gold clock', irrespective of what the pay was or how long the holidays were. The GTC needs to get a life and realise that it is nothing more than another government quango which was neither wanted nor indeed needed by the profession and for which the teaching profession HAS to pay. 1984..the sequel!?

Haha yes, course..because the way kids behave is all down to the teacher and the teachers family - nothing to do with their parents at all!

I think its a case of desperate times calling for desperate measures. People will keep pointing the finger of blame and role model at the teachers till there is really nothing else they can blame them for before they go tackling the parents...

which is why no teacher I know, myself included, live anywhere near school.....

Teachers are already aware of the fact that serious misconduct outside of school could have an impact on their job. I assume that such a code of conduct for teachers will be swiftly followed by similar guidelines for parents?

Political and moral policing for teachers, courtesy of the GTC.

How long will it be before they change their name to the KGB and start paying kids to spy on their teachers in the shops, just in case they question the party line while buying baked beans?

Disband the GTC. We never needed it in the past, and it's proven it's worthlessness in the present.
