Kate McCann's book has knocked It's Your Time You're Wasting off the Number 1 spot in Kindle Non-fiction. Deservedly so as well. She did nothing that I and a million other people wouldn't have done, but has had to suffer not only the loss of her child but numerous unpleasant comments and baseless accusations in the media.
Hats off to her for being brave enough to write about her tragedy and let's hope that despite the long odds her little girl is found one day safe and well.

Bull.
You know Chalk, I like a lot of what you have to say and as a teacher I find myself laughing along with your blog. I can't help thinking however that had the McCanns been ordinary working class parents from a council estate who had left their child unattended whilst on a night out, you would have taken great pleasure in dragging their name through the dirt. I feel genuinely sorry for the McCanns but what they did was extremely irresponsible. Their middle-class background has made them media darlings and exposed the prejudice that is rife in our so-called classless society.
"Ordinary working class parents" would have been treated the same. I think you are referring to benefits class. I give you: Shannon Matthews.
Well, Shannon Matthews was found guilty of playing silly buggers.
The McCanns haven't been.
Mr Chalk, I don't know you at all, but I can't help but think you're NOT the sort of person who would leave a three of your very young children asleep in a holiday apartment while you went out for a meal. It smacks of bad and negligent parenting, given your history of teaching it's not something I'd accuse you of.
I bought Kate McCann's book, but I left it in my bedroom while I popped out for tea, and when I came back it was gone.
