The Dangers of Swimming Goggles

Whilst the Aussies seem to be trying to bring back Hanging in their schools, we are banning swimming goggles.

What's the betting that this has less to do with what kids might do to themselves with their goggles than it is to do with what other kids are likely to do, ie pulling them and letting them snap back. It's the same with the tie issue and why someone's now brought out clip-on ones so that 'peanutting' isn't possible. Choking on the clip, however ....

This was a normal rule 15 years ago when I was a kid, both at the local leisure centre where the school swimming lessons were and at the recreational pools. Got a medical exemption for prescription lenses, though - my mum argued I was a lot less safe swimming blind than with goggles!
