Lots of details need to be made clear eg. what happens if you try to stop a pupil storming out of a classroom and they push you away? What happens if the pupil then attacks you and you get hurt? Will you get suspended whilst an investigation takes place if the pupil makes an allegation after you restrain them? What happens if the Head tells everyone not to attempt to restrain pupils etc etc...
Carolyne Willow of the Childrens Rights Alliance isn't happy but she sounds a bit mad so we won't worry about her.

Require all teachers do the SIA licence course.
Teach them restraint and self defence.
When the little darlings then come at you, you can fold them up in a safe and effective manner without risking further injury on your part.
Why restrain them? What's wrong with a taser
Anon 23.00 can this SIA licence course honestly give you the ability to control a violent person who is bigger and stronger than you are and who is resisting your efforts?
Restraint tecniques can be learnt very quickly, but take an awful lot of practice to get right. Without all that practice (and crucially it all has to be against an opponent who is trying their best to resist) you are simply conning yourself, which at best will make you look silly and at worst will get you badly injured.
Why don't bad schools just employ properly trained security staff who could be on call when needed?
I have been trained in "positive handling techniques" but I have no confidence in my ability to use these strategies without getting hurt or causing further problems. I'm fairly small and not well-coordinated.
I'd advocate security staff who CAN handle themselves. I'm a teacher, not a security guard.
I've often wondered if a small, physically unimposing female teacher may quite simply deal with a large male pupil being recalcitrant by simply activating a 120dB rape alarm and holding it to his ear. I'd like to watch it tried out, in any case.

Do you know what worked at my school? Detention, and me being afraid of getting in trouble at home for getting a detention.
Discipline and consequences!
Marc - what does the teacher do when s/he orders a kid to stay in detention and the kid says, 'Fuck off, I'm going home'?
Maybe it's time to give up on equal opportunities and just employ big blokes as teachers?
Seriously though, I think that the law is clear on what a teacher can and cannot do to restrain a violent or aggressive pupil. The problem is that school management and council employees rarely have any knowledge of the law and, from what I read in blogs etc, seem to take their understanding of the law from the Daily Mail et al.
I'd like to see this happen in an English school...

Sure has, look at the little lovelies:
No discipline. No regard for others. No Morals. No education.
If you cane them frequently enough for misdemeanours when they are young, they tend not to try and break your arm when they are older.

Do I live in a parallel universe?
"Teacher", are byou STILL complaining and whinging and kvetching??
STILL haven’t got a girlfriend, Skinny?
Best go back to the kennels after hours after detention and rub peanut butter on your “truncheon” for the securicor doggies to lick off, eh mate?
You fucking joke
Metcountymounty what is wrong with you?
If you don't agree with something Chalk says, why not just ignore his blog or post a comment that argues against it like others do? The rest of us don't want to read a load of childish abuse.
If you really were in the police then you would have to deal with stuff like that on a daily basis and wouldn't be so keen to post it.
Metcountymounty
has been pinched by a troll
Poor Metcuntymounty is clearly having a bad day, I'm sure he wouldn'y normally spell "you" with a "b".
I think he needs to put on his jodhpurs and have a nice canter in the countryside to calm down.
Either way, his insults are a little bizarre and are clearly generated from a mind which is, to use proper psychiatric terminology, one drop short of a piss.
See what's happened now? I've caught bad spelling off him. Oh the shame.
Simply ignore the trolls
They are only trying to wind you up and ignoring them is the perfect way to wind them up
Actually I'm quite a fan of the fake (I hope) Metcountymounty. His previous inspirational posts include
"My wife has a Dick" and
"All teachers are Cunts"
He's quite well known for making a cock of himself on other blogs.
google "metcountymounty" for more of his perceptive insights.
Tell you what though Frank, you're lucky you're not "Snuffy"
Stay anonymous mate otherwise the Left i'll come for you next
I did what you said, anonymous, and got to Sheepdogs and Wolves, and didn't read much I could disagree with. Is the halfwit posting on here as Metcountymounty not the same person?
(spell it out for me, I've been ill).
Fairly sure he's is a fake as I know the real one. If he isn't, he's lost the plot.
'... if a small, physically unimposing female teacher may quite simply deal with a large male pupil being recalcitrant by simply activating a 120dB rape alarm and holding it to his ear...' What about tear gas?
