All Night Long

It can't be coincidence that the Government is going to encourage 24 hour drinking, just as Harry comes home from the Big 'A'.

Maybe this was a bad time for Lord Coe to announce that there will be a 'Down in One' competition in the 2012 Olympics.

ps. A quick look round my local supermarket revealed 3 Litre bottles of 'Playground' Cider for just £2.59

Yebbut ...

No-one buys cider to get legless on, well not more than once. 3 litres of cider will do what to a gang of chavs? Depends how many is in the gang surely? They are not drinking this much each ...

What no-one ever raises on this issue is why the heavy drinkers are all in Northern climes. Could it just be the long dark, cold nights that drive people to excessive drink?

If you have ever, Mr Chalk, been pissed in the South of Europe you'll know it's not a pleasent experience. It's never wise to get tanked up in a hot climate simply because of the next day's hangover is twice as bad. Being drunk and aggressive is also less of a pleasure when it's hot - no-one can be bothered.

The solution to chavs binge drinking is to punish them severely when caught. Like all discipline problems the harsher the punishment the fewer the offenders. Cattle prods for Coppers - that's my solution :)

Annon, like your thinking, although a quick cattle prod to the genitals would be my advice and yes I'm being serious. Although I do think that public flogging should be brought back, actual physical bodily pain is by far the best deterant.

Do you know who makes it? - a Google search doesn't show up much...

Please read this carefully.... and yes I am being serious too.
You people scare me you really do !
Physical pain is never a deterent, they used to hang & flog thousands of people in this country during the middle ages did it ever prevent crime ? Bollocks did it !

To the last anon: YOU scare ME. Physical pain is certainly a deterrent - the threat of the cane made me behave at school, and did the same to lots of others.

the hanging and flogging in the middle ages was rather more haphazard, though since i'm not aware of any crime records from the middle ages we'll never know how successful it was. no-one advocating a return to that (or the witches' ducking stool).
however, if you return to the high point of british civilisation - the first half of the last century - hanging and flogging certainly deterred criminals. the country was by no mkeans perfect then, and many improvements have been made since. but safer streets is not one of them.

By far the biggest problem in society and in schools is a lack of personal discipline amongst the chavs. There used to be a time when the working classes had pride in themselves despite their poverty. Now working class areas are over-run with workshy, violent chavs. It's hardly suprising these kids end up as NEETs, but the dangerous thing about them is those they drag down with them i.e the ones who would succeed given half a chance. It is for them that harder discipline works not the chavs.

It really is that simple. Discipline kids at school and the number of troublemakers will be reduced to a handfull rather than a classfull. Disciplined children make disciplined adults; which makes a fairer, better society for all, except the chavs, who are 'lost' anyway.

The socialist/liberal attempts to make the chavs' lives better has only succeeded in making everyone elses lives worse. It's time we went back to a method that worked better for most.

Haha just to say two things have made me laugh today and they're both on your blog: "ginger scientists" and "playground cider"...!
