It's Christmas!

Whilst we wait with bated breath for my petition to appear, I would like to offer a small prize to whoever reports the first 'Christmas themed' lesson.

Decorations have been up for some time now in the slums and early sightings have confirmed that they will exceed all previous records in bad taste, so we need to get in on the action quickly.

I covered an Art lesson yesterday and spotted a Nativity Scene under construction in the corner. I don't suppose that really counts though...

Music were practising for the Carol Concert yesterday. That must count surely?

At my last school the HT sent round a closely-typed sheet of A4 listing activities that must not be seen about school until the last half-day before Christmas (non-educational DVDs still not allowed). It included non-NC displays and decorations, foolish flashing earrings and Santa hats, worksheets decorated with Christmas motifs, quizzes, Christmas cards must not be opened around school and ABSOLUTELY NO non-NC DVDs etc etc. This made us a school that was Serious About Raising Attainment.

I loved the descriptions of the Xmas decorations on the Cherry Tree Estate in your book. i drive past a very similar place on my way to work and spotted the first displays last week. I can't wait for the really awful ones to get put up.

Aw be nice. My little nephews and nieces love being driven through the estates to see the lights. It's almost a public service; most fitting considering most of the displays were bought out of tax-payers' money.

Every child at my school is busily counting down the days until Christmas. ("SIR SIR TWENTY SIX DAYS TO GO!") They also seem to think it's Christmas already and can therefore cock about with impunity - the mutually exclusive nature of these statements doesn't seem to have occurred to them.

"bated", surely.

I'm studying at degree level so probably don't count, but the University Choir is holding a carol service on December 7th. Mind you, the Christmas holidays start on the 15th.

And it seems that this blog is being read by my favourite writer!

Christmas? Bah! Humbug! I'm waiting until the week before we break up to start them on "A Christmas Carol" so that we only get the nasty bits done before we go on holiday...that'll keep them miserable until then. Who needs detention or the strap? Mess with their minds instead!

My students told me it's stupid to celebrate Christmas because the weather's crappy in December and Western food sucks.

How did they learn "sucks" and "crappy" when they haven't mastered the plural?

My kids are already asking if we can do christmas cards on computer.
