Australia

I'd always thought of the Aussies as a tough, straight talking, no nonsense people. However they seem to be doing their best to prove me wrong. (Thanks to Laura for this one)

I can remember hearing similar advice in Britain about 15 years ago. Maybe it's a case of where the American hand wringers go, our sandal wearers follow; then a few years later when the average Brit has finally stopped rolling about laughing, some Australian beardie wierdie thinks "Oh that sounds like a good idea..."

Oh God, please don't get started on that. Us southerners are laughing our heads off at those stupid banana-benders and their insanely PC government.

As soon as we read it, we performed a simple test on Junior. We ascertained that it was the mark that counts, not the colour that it is written in. If he got 24/25 and it was written in red, he was happy. If he got 24/100 and it was written in red, he was unhappy and embarrassed.

Down here in NSW, we're just hoping that we can unelect our state government before they try to pull this sort of crap on us.

"I think people should have a choice what colour pen they use. Because its not really fare [sic]."

Good point, well made.

I have both red and green pens to use when marking and the colour i use is purely on whim. The thing i like about these pens is not their colour byt the fac that they're fountain pens, and geekily enough the red pen has a red body and the green pens is green.

How long will it take for green to become the new red?

I never use red anymore, preferring crimson or ochre. The names are much less aggressive!

Just don't mark anything - so the little darlings think they've got it all right and they can then celebrate success!!

I don't believe those comments on the website came from real Australians. I think they were written by the halfwits who send us stuff from the Local Authority. The similarities in spelling and grammar are just too great to be coincidental. Or perhaps halfwittery knows no national boundaries.

Which comments do you mean, Lilyofthefield? You don't get to claim all the bad ones, you know! We have plenty of weirdos, poor spellers and nutty commentators, along with the more insightful and sensible ones. This article came from our local paper, and when I emailed the link to Frank there were already quite a lot of comments. It's a bit like Youtube videos - you need to be a bit of a masochist to enjoy reading the comments. Laura.

Is not restricting red pens just part of 'creative committee'?
If you can think up some weird restriction. Or take offence at some common custom you get higher standing amongst the teaching brigade.
