Jamie's Dream School

Jamie Oliver will attempt to convince us tonight that a bunch of wretches could be transformed into young Einsteins if only their teachers were more inspirational. Hmm... haven't we heard this idea before somewhere?

Anyway, historian David Starkey soon gets fed up with the kids' poor behaviour and causes a stir when he calls a fat kid "fat". Later on, Ellen MacArthur will take them sailing! Now why didn't you lot think of doing that?

You can watch it on Channel 4 at 9pm but don't blame me if you get really cross.

I'm cross already and it's not even 7pm.

I watched 'Panorama: Classroom Warriors' on Monday. That's the way to go.

Re 'Classroom Warriors': an interesting difference between the UK secondary and the system in the US. Our lot parading in fatigues, in the US adopting the 'managing the men' approach. And the UK primary head giving proper 'roles' rather than having bedwetting coordinators - trusting them to take the lead and giving them the authority to do it.

Either way - you can be a strict/fair/consistent as you like in the classroom: if you don't have a supportive management (a load of 'conflict resolution' apologists in management at my school) and defined/consistent processes you're f*cked. Ex army or not.

I was talking to a retired teacher once about so-called, 'modern methods' of teaching. He commented, only slightly tongue in cheek, that it didn't matter WHAT you teach kids just as long as they DON'T like it.

I'm appalled that Channel 4 can broadcast such rubbish. I don't blame the kids for hating it - they are not learning anything! Maybe Jamie should have tried such real teachers!!!!!!!

Not really sure what Jamie Oliver was/is trying to achieve with this dire program. Is he trying to show that all you have to do is have a full range of celebrity experts teaching lessons in all our local comprehensives at one hour per week? Not bothering to do the maths, but that would involve a lot of celebrities. Or... is he trying to damn the kids? The poorly enforced uniform for a bunch of 20 year olds was a bit odd.

Quite how a celebrity chef somehow now becomes a teaching guru overnight is beyond me. Utter rubbish.

I love Jamie for having a try, but it's just pretty depressing to see inspiring guys such as Rolf Harris ground down by lack of basic discipline.

Interested to hear your take on Dream School.

Dear Christian friend :- Where in the bible did Jesus claim to be god? Where in the bible did Jesus ask to be worshipped? Where did Jesus say I am God Manifested in flesh? Where did Jesus mention the original sin? Where did Jesus say I am the God the Son? Where did Jesus say that I am God the Word? Where did Jesus say I am the Second God in Trinity ?
