The Man on the Telly

If you're not doing anything tomorrow (Wednesday) at seven, you can see me ranting incoherently to Angelica Bell on the One Show (BBC1). We filmed for about twenty minutes and they will edit it down to about four, so I've no idea what it will be like. Hopefully they will keep in the bit where I leap in front of Angelica to save her from being eaten by a crazed dog. Well that's my side of the story anyway...

Oh. I'm the one with the red woolly hat. It was freezing.

I taught in Comprehensives for approx 11 years. During this time, I taught RE, was Head of Year, Head of Behavior support and finally worked for the county as an Advisor (Behaviour).
I loved the kids ( no really) and went into teaching because of the terrible adolescence that I had endured.
However: 3 Inspections, introduction of "Nothing Negative" ROA's, a Head with a Personality Disorder, policy changes, liability, constant work at Weekends, end of Holidays, Sunday Evening syndrome, total lack of parental responsibility, older teachers who refused to work with me effectively when I was promoted, lack of training for me as I progressed, etc etc all helped lead to the total breakdown I had 4 years ago ( I had Bipolar disorder all along but wouldn't accept it).

Now I have come to accept the status quo (it took ages as I actually really loved my job. Particularly at County), and have been out of Mental hospital for 2 years, I can appreciate that life can be still and calm. You don't have to lurch from term to hols, from crisis to crisis, from old policy to new policy, from Inspection to Inspection.

A 6 week Summer Holiday just is not worth it. If you are unhappy, get out now - before you have no choice.
